Highlighting the top-rated schools in the Sacramento area

“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.”

-Benjamin Franklin

No matter who you are or where you live, one of your biggest concerns is probably making sure that your children receive a fantastic education. Thankfully, there are some great schools in the greater Sacramento region, with some that even garner national recognition.

If you’re a homeowner, living near a well-ranked school is a wise investment, too. In fact, surveys by Realtor.com revealed that 20% of all homebuyers would pay between 6 and 10% more for a home in a good school district, and 10% of homebuyers reported that they’d pay as much as 20% to live in a good school district! Their research went on to reveal that 22% of all homebuyers considered the home’s proximity to a good school, and 29% said the nearby school was a deciding factor in their decision to buy.

And if you’re a Realtor reading this, feel free to use this list to send out as a resource to your home buying clients. Remember that according to Fair Housing Laws, you’re not supposed to offer information on school systems, income demographics, etc. at all – but you can refer your clients to third-party information sources.

So how do the schools in the Sacramento area grade? We scoured the numerous reports and research, including teacher reports, parent feedback, test scores, and comprehensive data by School-Ratings.com, BestSchools.org, GreatSchools.org, and several others to see how each school ranks.

The metro Sacramento region is dominated by two school districts, San Juan Unified and the Sacramento City Unified School District, among others.

Sacramento City Unified School District educates 47,940 students with an 85% high school graduation rate. On average, $9,520 is spent on every student per year.

San Juan Unified District educates 47,245 students, with a high school graduation rate of 76%. On average, $8,810 is spent on every student per year.

While smaller school districts like the Eureka Union School District educate only 3,338 students each year.

There are plenty of schools we can be proud of, ranking at the top of the state or even in the country. But there are a few bad apples that demand our attention – and maybe a change if your child is a student there.

Here are our list of top-ranked schools (that we’d consider an 8, 9, or 10 on a scale from 1-10) by city and school district for the greater Sacramento area:
